This series was introduced by Thomas Y. Crowell & Co. in 1883. Initially the volumes were not part of a series.

In 1884 #5-8 comprised the Poplar Row Series along with a fifth volume: Cecil's Summer by E. B. Hollis.
Numbers 1-4 beginning in 1884 made up the Chosen Vessels Series.
