A. C. Armstrong & Son
Andrew C. Armstrong was involved in the publishing business as early as 1846. He joined the firm of Baker & Scribner in 1847 and was made a partner in Charles Scribner & Co. in 1864. In 1872 he was a founding member of the successor to Charles Scribner & Co., Scribner, Armstrong & Co. That same year Armstrong helped establish Scribner, Welford & Armstrong.
Andrew sold his interest in the “Scribner” firms in 1878 and in 1879 joined his son, J. Sinclair Armstrong, and establish A. C. Armstrong & Co. J. Sinclair Armstrong (1857-1929) had previously been employed by Scribner, Armstrong & Co. A. C. died in 1900 at the age of 71.
A. C. Armstrong & Son was succeeded by George H. Doran in 1909
During the life of this publishing house, books for juveniles were not a significant percentage of its output. Several series however were published.
