DeWolfe, Fiske & Co., Boston
DeWolfe, Fiske & Co. was founded by Perez Morton DeWolfe (1850-1931) and Charles F. Fiske in 1880. Both men had previously worked for Albert W. Lovering, De Wolfe as a bookkeeper and Fiske as a shipping clerk. Lovering failed as a publisher in 1879 although it continued as a bookseller.
By 1885 Ephraim Adams was also a partner in the firm. In 1905 the firm was renamed as DeWolfe and Fiske Co. and became a retail book business although a few books were still being published on its imprint. It appears by 1909 the firm was no longer publishing any books.
The vast majority of series for juveniles that DeWolfe, Fiske & Co. published were oversized volumes of reprinted stories, illustrations, etc. that have lithographed board covers. Some are over cloth whereas others are not. These series were published between 1891 and 1905.
In most, but not all, instances the series name of these books is at the bottom of the front cover.
