Edward Livermore was a bookstore owner/ publisher whose career started in Worchester, Massachusetts in 1846 at 184 Main Street. By October, 1852 he had moved to Boston and in 1855 he was located in New York City.

Edward Livermore and Edward P. Rudd entered into a partnership in 1856. The new firm, Livermore & Rudd, was active in 1856 and 1857. Livermore retired in 1857 at which time Rudd and his father, Rev. George R. Rudd, joined G. W. Carleton to form a new publishing house, Rudd & Carleton. This company was active until 1861 when Edward P. Rudd died (at the age of 28) and George R. Rudd retired.
