The first editions of these titles (Format 1 and 1a) were published
in 1847 by Edward Livermore and have that date on the title page. All
of the titles have a number of black line drawn illustrations.
In 1847, books in cloth as well as in wraps were published. There is no
priority between the formats.
These volumes were published a number of times by Livermore and its
successors.
Books in this series have been seen in 1847, 1850, 1853, 1854, and
1856. Rudd & Carleton published this series but a title page has
not been seen.

Wraps. Yellow. Book appropriate illustration on the cover.
Format 1a 1847-1850 (perhaps later but not confirmed)
Cloth. Brown. Gilt decoration on blindstamped book seen in 1847.
The clothbound book in 1850 has the "Uncle Thomas Stories" embossed on
the front cover. 4.25" x 5.25"

paper boards.

Wraps. Cover picture of Uncle Thomas speaking to children. 4.25" x 5.25"
Livermore edition after the move to Boston.
After Livermore moved to New York, the Boston title page was still
being used for a time.
Format 3 (Livermore & Rudd)
Cloth. Green seen. Blindstamped with embossed pattern on the front
cover.
Format 4 (Livermore & Rudd, Rudd &. Carleton)
Boards. Red cloth backs. Square. 16 mo.
