John S. Locke & Co, Boston
Locke and Bubier, Boston
Graves, Locke & Company, Boston
Details are somewhat sketchy but it appears that John Staples Locke
started his namesake publishing firm at 34 and 36 Cornhill in 1870.
There are notices that stated that it succeeded the publisher G. W.
Cottrell.
In late 1872 John E. Bubier joined Locke to establish Locke and Bubier.
John E. Bubier (1835-) was involved with a number of
companies in addition to Locke and Bubier. He was a named partner in an
insurance firm (Bubier Brothers) as well as an ornamental iron works
company.
Locke and Bubier was in business until 1875 when the company once again became J. S. Locke and Company.
In 1877 Locke joined Andrew Graves to form Graves, Locke
and Company. Graves retired in 1880 and the firm once again became J.
S. Locke and Company.
