Early 1870 ads note the title for Hattie and Marcus as Hatty and Berta; or, First Steps in the Better Path. It is unknown whether this book was ever published with that title.

The series was first published in 1870 with two titles. The other two books were added in 1871 and 1873 respectively.
Until 1873 the series consisted of the first three volumes. The fourth volume, "Wayside Flowers", was added to the series in 1873 when Locke and Bubier were publishing the series.

Published by both J. S. Locke and Co. (first editions of #1-3) and Locke and Bubier (first edition of #4). I do not know if Graves, Locke and Co. also published this series. The format is the same for both known publishers.
