The Thornton Series was introduced by Dodd, Mead & Co. in 1878.
Five titles were added to it in 1882 to form the Woodland Series. The
latter titles were copyrighted in 1882.

In 1883 this series was noted as the Marigold
Series.
In 1884 it was called the Cherry
Series.
There is no indication in the books which series they are part of. The
series all came within boxes originally and the box stated which set
the books were in. I have not seen any of the boxed sets at this time.
The cover formats of the books are shown below without noting the
particular series that each format represents.
Format of the books:
Cloth. Various colors. All have various black line drawn decorations
or illustrations on the front cover which surround a non book specific
appliqué. 16 mo.
The three formats below were all part of the 1882 or later series.
