Willis P. Hazard published the first edition of titles #1 and #2 in
the same format in its "Good Little Pig's Library"
The original ads noted that the series would have twelve titles. Only
seven volumes were published. Brown, Taggard & Chase published the
first editions of #3-7.
Two covers have been noted. The one with a girl and boy reading is the
earlier of the two. The girl and the pig cover is later-Probably
beginning in 1858.
Also note that the earlier titles of #1 and #2 state plain or colored
at the sides of the top of the cover whereas later editions note at the
top center whether they are plain or colored. It appears that a new
front cover design began with the publication of title #3.
This series was reprinted by Taggard and Thompson, Thompson, Bigelow
& Brown and Thompson, Brown & Co. Although editions have not
been seen as of yet, it is most likely that Brown & Taggard and
Frederick (Fred'k) A. Brown also published
this series. Thompson, Brown and Co. published these books as the
"Little Pig's Library"
The first edition of the first two titles note only those titles on the
back cover ads. See below.
Determining the edition of the other titles is a bit more problematic.
Books #3 and 4 were released at the same time. Thus it is most likely
that the first editions have 4 titles on the back ads. I have not seen
any books with only three or six titles noted. Probably title #5 has
five titles on the back and the same for title number seven with seven
titles on the back.
Wraps. Stitch binding noted. 32 pages including the covers. Numerous
illustrations.
7" x 5.25". Plain books cost 12.5 cents each. Colored books cost 25
cents.
