American News Company published this series beginning in 1882 with books # 2, 4, 6, 8, 11 and 12. By 1883 all twelve books made up this series. In 1879 Books #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 comprised the "Illustrated Juvenile Book" Series
In some instances it has been noted that on the same title the cover picture is different between the 1879 books and the 1882 volumes. The back ads can be helpful in distinguishing the older from the newer book. The older books only list four of the 50 cent books whereas the newer titles have eight of the fifty cent books (which made up the "Sunshine Series")
