Although the authors are not completely known, it is presumed that
Edgeworth or Barbauld wrote the books that have no author designated.
Dodd & Mead introduced this series in 1875. The titles however had
all previously been published.
The formats noted here are the same as the formats in the George R.
Dana publication of this series. Lee & Shepard also published this
series but in a different cover format. Other publishers that did this
series include Degen, Estes & Co., Wm. Carter, Cobb, Andrews &
Co., and Cobb Pritchard & Co.
