Volumes #1 and #2 were published in 1868 by Cassell, Petter &
Galpin. In the spring of 1869 volumes #3 and #4 were published. By
late summer of 1869, the 5th and 6th books were printed. Note that
Cassell opened up a Paris office in 1871. So books without Paris on
the title page were published prior to 1871. In 1882 Robinson Crusoe
by Mary Schwacofer was added to the series. By 1883 Cassell &
Company, LTD. was publishing this set.
Numerous illustrations / colored plates
Cassell, Petter & Galpin publications have several formats and
with the exception of the books that note "Paris" on the title page
cannot be prioritized at this point.
1868-1870
Cloth. various colors. Gilt lettering and decorations on the spine
and cover. 5.75" x 7"
This format has been seen with and without Paris on the title page.
Thus published in the 1870-1871+ range.
Unknown date. Title page not seen but published by Cassell, Petter
& Galpin. 5" x 7".
Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co. published this series beginning in
1879. The first publications were in cloth. In 1882 two formats were
noted with the lithographed covers now added.
