Introduced as a series by J. B. Lippincott & Co. in 1867. Claxton, Remsen & Haffelfinger published this series in 1869.
The Wonderful Ravels was a theatre troupe active in the 1840's and later. One of the highlights of its show was a pantomime of "the Brazilian ape". Another act was a pantomime of Mazulme, or the night owl. The white knight was a character in a skit performed by the Ravel's troupe.
