The first edition of Book #1 was published by Roberts Brothers in 1897. The first editions of Books #2-4 were published by Little, Brown, and Company over the next three years and #1 was reprinted in 1898.
Generally, the 1898 and 1899 Little, Brown books that had been previously published by Roberts Brothers had the same cover format. I have been unable to find an 1898 Little Brown #1 with the Roberts Brothers cover. The 1898 Little Brown I have seen is below.

Cloth. Grey. Each title has a unique book specific illustration on the cover. Red cover lettering and gilt spine lettering. 7.5” x 5.25”. In 1898 the first two books were also sold as a boxed set.
