Munroe & Francis
Charles S. Francis
C. S. Francis & Co.

Munroe & Francis was established in Boston about 1802 by Edmund Munroe and David Francis (1780-1853). Samuel H. Parker joined the firm sometime thereafter and the new firm was Munroe, Francis & Parker. It dissolved in 1815 and was succeeded by Munroe & Francis. The company was active until 1853.

Munroe’s son, Charles S. Francis (1805-1887), opened a New York bookstore and publishing outfit in 1826 after working with his father in Boston. Another son, David G. Francis, became a partner in 1845. In 1860 David left the company to pursue a career in the sales of rare books and the firm dissolved although Francis still continued as a bookseller until 1867.
