H. L. Kilner, Philadelphia
McCauley & Kilner, Baltimore

H. L. Kilner opened a wholesale bookstore in Philadelphia in 1889 in which he sold mainly Catholic items. For the previous nine years Kilner had been associated with John Murphy & Co. The first known Kilner published book appeared in 1889.

Isaac Kilner had been a partner in the John Murphy & Co. publishing firm. That partnership dissolved in December, 1890. During that same month Isaac Kilner joined Thomas B. McCauley in Baltimore to establish McCauley & Kilner. McCauley died at the age of 37 in June, 1893 and in December, 1893 Issac Kilner transferred all of the stock and plates of McCauley & Kilner to H. L. Kilner & Co. of which Isaac was now a member.

H. L. Kilner died in 1896.

These firms published a number of series for juveniles.
