A. L. Burt (Company), New York
Albert Levi Bury (1843-1913) was a native of Massachusetts. At the age of 40 after working in several other industries, he established a New York publishing firm. Burt published mostly reprinted titles in numerous publisher’s series. Beginning in the teens, the Burt firm published many short series for juveniles as it competed with Grosset and Dunlap, Cupples & Leon, Hurst & Company and the Henry Altemus Company for that very lucrative market. Some Burt examples include the Flying Machine Boys, the Radio Boys, Marjorie Dean Series, Boy Allies, and the Broncho Rider Boys.
Those later series are not reviewed in this bibliography. The series included here are publisher's series which were started between 1887 and about 1905. These sets are mostly multivolumed, multi-authored publisher's series.
